Why context matters
An archaeological object without context loses information about date, use, people, place and legal history. A broken link is easy to repair. Lost archaeological context usually is not.

Photograph the object, inspect for active corrosion or flaking and use material-appropriate support. Do not use household chemicals or glue.

Repeat database and restriction checks, preserve the full documentation packet and disclose restoration and uncertainty.
